The first time I heard a recording of Brad Mehldau playing piano, my fascination for his music was immediate and total. But having had the chance to open for him in Buenos Aires and then listen to him play for hours, made that night in July 2002 into an unforgettable experience. There were more than 1,700 people in the audience; Horacio, modest and brilliant as always, played like a god on that concert grand. Our version of “Pequeña” and “Los Mareados” and the public’s reaction afterwards left us both trembling. A glorious evening.
